Are my pants on fire?

A few weeks ago, a friend asked me if I had ever lied to them. My initial response was the joke "was my mouth moving?", but I kept that to myself (I'm pretty sure I would have been the only one laughing.) I answered that I was sure I had, but nothing particular came to mind. Honestly (get it?), it was not a fair question. It's like asking your partner if they've ever had sexual fantasies about another. Of course they have, and you shouldn't be asking. One piece of advice, if asked that last question, do not answer "yes, your sister" - it isn't well-received and leads to some very uncomfortable family gatherings.

Lies come in all shapes and sizes. My grandmother always asked me if I liked her cooking, and I always said yes regardless of whether what we just ate was good or bad. There was no way I was going to purposely hurt her feelings. Of course, we all know of bad lies. Funny, I remember Chris Rock saying men tell more lies and women tell bigger lies I (men lie about where they've been while the woman tells you it’s your baby.)

Well, the point (yes, I have a point) is I was asked again today about lying. It came up after I had forgotten about a lie I had told (family-related, so no trouble at home) and had to be reminded. Luckily, I was reminded before talking to the family (wipes sweat from brow). It takes me back to the friend asking about my lying to them - it reveals a lot about what a person thinks of you when they ask that question. And, could they ever really believe your answer (since they asked that question)? Well, I'd like to meet the person that has never lied, I'm sure there definition of lying differs from mine.

My dad is going to die very soon

I walked into his apartment and sat beside his bed as he lay asleep. His wife gave a nudge and his bleary eyes opened halfway. A half smile...
